For many retirees, the Tarheel State offers a nice range of options from which to enjoy the Atlantic Coast beaches, the Blue Ridge and Smoky mountains, and urban locations near universities and cultural attractions.
Here are the five North Carolina locations rated the best by U.S.News & World Report:
- Asheville
- Charlotte
- Raleigh/Durham
- Winston-Salem
- Greensboro
Located in the mountains, Asheville is a small city with an affordable cost of living and a vibrant arts scene. Other affordable options in North Carolina include Greensboro, which is a mid-size city with a small-town feel. The least expensive is Winston-Salem, located in the Yadkin Valley, with a slower pace and a growing number of wineries.
Those seeking a more urban environment will find it in the state’s largest city, Charlotte, which is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country.
The most expensive option is the Research Triangle in the Raleigh-Durham area. It’s home to three major universities: The University of North Carolina in the charming college town of Chapel Hill, Duke University in Durham, and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, which is the state capital.
Council of Seniors Wants to Make Retirement Better
No matter where you retire, getting the most out of Social Security helps. Seniors earned that money,. That’s why here at Council of Seniors we’re intently focused on getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act to return $581 to seniors. Their inaction has allowed the annual Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) to be less than adequate in recent years.
By signing our petition, you’ll make your voice heard by greedy politicians who’ve ignored you for too long.
