When you retired, you may have believed you’d spend less money than you did when you were working. But in reality, there are likely at least 10 things you spend more on according to Kiplinger.com, some of which are more surprising than others.

Expenses that generally increase include health care as you age, utilities due to increased time at home, and day-to-day expenses of daily living. Meeting up with other retirees for lunches or day excursions can add up quickly.

Of course, if you wind up deciding to relocate to a different climate or to be closer to family, you’ll spend a great deal on moving and changing residences. You should also expect to spend more if you donate to charity more often, or if you opt to travel during retirement.

Besides indulging your travel desires, you’ll also have more time for activities like fitness and reading. A gym membership or buying home exercise equipment is an added expense. Avid readers now have time to peruse bookstores and buy more books, despite the availability of local libraries.

To Spend More Money, Seniors Need More Money, They Earned It

You want to enjoy your retirement to the fullest, and you need all of the money that’s entitled to you to do that. Here at Council of Seniors, we believe getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act is a must. The annual Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) has been truly inadequate in some recent years, passing this law is critical for seniors. At least $581 has been missing from many seniors’ benefits, and passing this bill can recover what’s been withheld from them.

Take time today to sign our petition, as we need your support to get this bill passed.
