Even though the COVID-19 pandemic initially cut down on the number of “snowbirds” leaving northern climates for the South to escape winter, people are starting to travel again. Given the chillier temps and bouts of snow hitting various parts of the country, we can expect to see a rise in more retirees “flying south.”
Seniors are still flocking to places like Florida to enjoy balmier weather and the usual activities like golf and beach-going. On the list of the top 10 snowbird locations, 6 of them are in the Sunshine State.
Here they are, with the top destination listed first:
- Boca Raton, Florida
- Jupiter, Florida
- West Palm Beach, Florida
- Fort Myers, Florida
- Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- Clearwater, Florida
- Delray Beach, Florida
- Corpus Christi, Texas
- Gilbert, Arizona
In compiling the list, analysts looked at such factors as climate, availability of affordable housing, proximity to beaches and recreation, adequate self-storage resources, and the prevalence of COVID-19. They also looked at both American and Canadian snowbird trends.
We Want Flying South for the Winter to Be Possible
If you want to head to warmer temps during the winter, you’ll need extra money. That’s why Council of Seniors is fully committed to getting Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Inadequate annual Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLAs) from recent years withheld $581 from seniors, and it needs to be returned to them.
Please sign our petition right now! More and more seniors must show Congress many people support this bill.
