The idea of people calling it a career and easing into a leisurely retirement is going by the boards. Challenging economic times and the impact of the COVID pandemic have people rethinking that notion and taking a more realistic approach. CNBC reported a recent study by Voya Financial found more than half of today’s workers expect to continue some form of work after leaving their careers.
People in all age brackets recognize that work provides a sense of purpose that many simply don’t wish to give up. They also have concerns about unexpected expenses they may encounter as they get older.
The study shows 54 percent of workers overall expect to keep working into their retirement years. Out of those still employed, the study found about 70 percent are saving more for retirement than paying down debt. The traditional concept of retirement is changing dramatically.
Council of Seniors Wants to Reduce Retirement Stress
Extra retirement income has become a major focus for many Americans. That’s why here at Council of Seniors, we’re working tirelessly to get Congress to pass The SAVE Benefits Act. Annual Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) in recent years withheld $581 from seniors. It’s high time for this money to be returned.
Sign our petition so we can work together to give Washington politicians a wake-up call about how many Americans support this bill.
